Back in April, WhatsApp announced that they were planning to add voice calling features to their messaging back in the second quarter of 2014. But that time time has passed long ago and we are towards the end of 2014 and we don’t see any voice calling features in their app. Well now they have delayed it to the first quarter of 2015.
News came in this week in a presentation at the Code/Mobile conference, WhatsApp CEO Jan Koum revealed to the public that the development team has encountered a number of hurdles in bringing the voice calling into their messaging app.
WhatsApp was recently acquired by Facebook, but Jan said that WhatsApp won’t be competing with Facebook’s Messenger App in voice calling features. Facebook’s Messenger App offers voice calling over WiFi. He also said that Facebook is designed to work on both mobile products and desktops, but WhatsApp is designed to work just on mobile devices integrating into user’s contact list.
